Phosphine-Iminoquinoline Iron Complexes for Ethylene Polymerization and Copolymerization

The synthesis and olefin polymerization behavior of a series of new phosphine-iminoquinoline iron complexes is described. Upon activation, the iron complexes are highly active for ethylene polymerization, producing low molecular weight (MW) linear polyethylene (PE) with activities up to 108 g of PE/((mol of Fe) h). This activity is comparable to that of the most active bis(imino)pyridine iron catalysts and heterogeneous Ziegler-Natta catalysts. The MWs and molecular weight distributions (MWDs) of the resulting polymers can be controlled by the modification of the catalyst structures. In addition, upon activation the iron complexes are capable of copolymerizing ethylene with 1-octene, giving copolymers with alpha-olefin incorporation up to 8.8%.

The efficient and stereoselective construction of glycosidic linkages is of great significance in carbohydrate chemistry due to the ubiquitous existence of numerous biologically active natural products and saccharides. Although great efforts have been devoted to stereoselective glycosylations in the past few decades, constructing glycosidic bonds with high efficiency and selectivity remains a challenge and continues to be an important area in carbohydrate research. Phenols are widely used as nucleophiles in palladium-catalyzed allylation. In contrast, the possibility of using aliphatic alcohols as nucleophiles is not as thoroughly explored. The modified reaction conditions were then applied to other substrates. Originating from easily prepared carbonates, various glycosides, such as phenolic Oglycosides, thiophenolic S-glycoside, aliphatic O-glycosides, and even disaccharides, were synthesized in good yields by means of a palladium-catalyzed decarboxylative allylation.

Preparation, crystal structures, electrochemical and spectroscopic properties of bis(2,2′-bipyridine)ruthenium(II) complexes containing 8-(diphenylphosphino)quinoline or 2-(diphenylphosphino)pyridine

Mixed-ligand bis(2,2′-bipyridine)ruthenium(II) complexes containing a hybrid donor-type P-N ligand of 8-(diphenylphosphino)quinoline (Ph2Pqn) or 2-(diphenylphosphino)pyridine (Ph2Ppy), [Ru(bpy)2(Ph2Pqn or Ph2Ppy)](PF6)2 (1 or 2; bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine), have been prepared. The X-ray crystal structure analyses of 1 and 2 revealed that Ph2Pqn and Ph2Ppy act as a bidentate ligand to form a five- and four-membered chelate ring, respectively. The four-membered chelate ring formed by Ph2Ppy has a very small bite angle (P(1)-Ru-N(1): 68.4(1)), but the RuII(bpy)2 moiety in 2 has a typically strain-free structure. On the other hand, in the Ph2Pqn complex 1, one of the bpy planes is skewed remarkably from the Ru coordination plane due to an intramolecular steric interaction with a phenyl ring of Ph2Pqn. The redox potentials and the 1MLCT transition energies of the Ph2Pqn and Ph2Ppy complexes (1 and 2) were not so different from the averaged values of those of the corresponding 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)benzene (dppb) and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) complexes, [Ru(bpy)2(dppb or phen)](PF6)2 (3 or 4). These facts indicate that the electronic asymmetry inherently present in Ph2Pqn and Ph2Ppy does not affect remarkably the ground state properties of the complexes. However, unlike complexes 2-4, the Ph2Pqn complex 1 in EtOH/MeOH (4:1) glass at 77 K exhibited a novel dual emission, giving a biexponential emission decay. The shorter-lived (tau = 10.8 mus) emission is attributable to the bpy-based 3MLCT emission, similar to the other RuII-polypyridine complexes, while the longer-lived (tau = 62.1 mus) emission can probably be assigned as arising from the quinoline-based 3(pi-pi*) excited state.

Novel N1-(phosphoryl moiety)-N2-(1,2,4-triazin-3-yl)hydrazines 4, 6, 8, 9 and 12, iminophosphorane 3, iminophosphane 5, 1,2,4-triazinyldiazaphospholine 7, 1,2,4,3-triazaphospholinotriazines 2, 10, 11, and 1,2,4-triazino[3,2-c][1,2,4, 5] triazaphosphine 13 have been obtained via treatment 5,6-bis(4-bromophenyl)-3- hydrazino-1,2,4-triazine (1) with various polyfunctional phosphorus reagents by stirring at room temperature or refluxing for long time in tetrahydrofuran. Structures of these compounds have been deduced upon the basis of elemental and spectral data. Molluscicidal activity of the prepared compounds against Biomphalaria Alexandrina snails (the intermediate host of Schistosoma mansoni) showed considerable activities.
