Among the ligands tested, phosphinite-thioglycoside 3 and phosphine-thioglycoside 10, bearing a 1,2-cis arrangement of the two heteroatoms, have exhibited the best results in terms of reactivity and enantioselectivity. Interestingly, ligands 3 and 10, both derived from a d-sugar are able to generate the addition product of the phenylboronic acid to the cyclohexenone with opposite configurations, behaving thus as enantiomers.

The lanthanide complexes exhibit characteristic square antiprism and trigonal dodecahedron structures with eight-coordinated oxygen atoms. The luminescence properties of these complexes are characterized by their emission quantum yields, emission lifetimes, and their radiative and nonradiative rate constants. Lanthanide complexes with dodecahedron structures offer markedly high emission quantum yields (Eu: 55-72%, Sm: 2.4-5.0% in [D6]acetone) due to enhancement of the electric dipole transition and suppression of vibrational relaxation. These remarkable luminescence properties are elucidated in terms of their distorted coordination structures.

Here, a heterojunction network structure constructed of highly conductive sub-20-nm graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) arrays stacked on a semiconducting molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) monolayer is suggested to maximize the heterojunction effect on carrier transport. This heterojunction network allows the carriers inevitably pass back and forth between the GNR and the MoS2 through the vertical heterojunction, effectively utilizing the interfacial properties in thermoelectricity. This structure also can modify the band structure by controlling the linewidth of the nanoribbons, or introduce an interlayer at the heterojunctions to enhance the tunneling effect between the two layers, thus significantly improved thermoelectric properties are achieved such as enhanced electrical conductivity of 700 S m?1 and a high power factor of 222 muW m?1 K?1.

Also disclosed are processes for the dimerization of ethylene and propylene that utilize these catalyst solutions. The catalyst systems described herein demonstrate that, depending on the choice of phosphine compound used with the catalytically active nickel, it is indeed possible to lower the concentration of hexene olefins relative to butenes and pentenes, even in the presence of excess propylene. The selectivity to the linear or branched pentene product can also be controlled by the selection of the phosphine compound. The catalyst solutions may be used with mixtures of olefins.
