Figure Persented: Chiral 3-(2?-imidazolinyl)anilines 3a-c were easily synthesized by converting the carboxyl and nitro groups in commercially available 3-nitrobenzoic acid to chiral imidazoline and amine, respectively. The one-pot phosphorylation/metalation reaction of 3-(2?-imidazolinyl) anilines 3a-c, where the amino group in 3a-c was first phosphorylated by reaction with PPh2Cl, followed by metalation with PdCl2 or anhydrous NiCl2 in situ, afforded the three unsymmetrical chiral PCN pincer Pd(II) complexes 4a-c and the Ni(II) complex 5a with aryl-based aminophosphine-imidazoline ligands via aryl C-H bond activation of the related ligands. All of the new compounds were characterized by elemental analysis (HRMS for ligand precursors), 1H and 13C NMR, 31P{1H} NMR (for pincer complexes), and IR spectra. The molecular structures of Pd complexes 4a,c and that of Ni complex 5a have been determined by X-ray single-crystal diffraction. Each complex adopts a typical distorted-square-planar geometry. The potential of the obtained chiral pincers in the asymmetric addition of diarylphosphines to beta-substituted enones or trans-beta-nitrostyrene was investigated. The Pd pincer 4c, the chirality of which originated from l-phenylglycinol, was found to be an effective catalyst for the asymmetric addition of diphenylphosphine to a series of beta-aryl enones with high enantioselectivities (12 examples, 51-94% ee’s). In particular, excellent yields and enantioselectivities (>90% yields and ?90% ee’s) were obtained when beta-aryl groups in the enones bore an electron-withdrawing group such as p-NO2.

These phosphines were studied as ligands in palladium(II) complexes and further evaluated in two mechanistically different model catalytic reactions, namely in Pd-catalyzed asymmetric allylic alkylation of 1,3-diphenylallyl acetate with dimethyl malonate, and in enantioselective aza-Morita-Baylis-Hillman reactions of aromatic N-sulfonyl imines with methyl vinyl ketone.

The reactivity of homoleptic alpha-metalated dimethylbenzylamine lanthanide complexes (alpha-Ln(DMBA)3; Ln = La, Y; DMBA = alpha-deprotonated dimethylbenzylamine) was probed through a series of stoichiometric insertion and catalytic hydrophosphination reactions. Both rare-earth-metal species inserted 3 equiv of various carbodiimides to form the corresponding homoleptic amidinates. alpha-La(DMBA)3 was also found to be a useful precatalyst for the room-temperature hydrophosphination of heterocumulenes to form phosphaguanidines, phosphaureas, and phosphathioureas in moderate to excellent isolated yields. Furthermore, through a series of stepwise stoichiometric protonation and insertion reactions, a plausible mechanism for the hydrophosphination catalysis was investigated.

According to the present invention, the palladium coordination compound (I) (wherein X represents -Cl, R represents hydrogen atom or C1-C4 alkyl, and the chiralities of the two P are simultaneously R configurations or S configurations) is synthesized through a coordination reaction of the compound (II) and a divalent palladium salt; the palladium coordination compound (I) (wherein X is selected from -Br, -I, -OAc, -OTf, -BF4 and -SbF6) is synthesized through an anion exchange reaction of the palladium coordination compound (I) with the X represented by -Cl; and the palladium coordination compound (I) of the present invention can be adopted as the chiral catalyst so as to be used in a variety of asymmetric reactions such as asymmetric Micheal addition, asymmetric Heck coupling reactions, asymmetric Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reactions, asymmetric allylation reactions and the like. Ru(II)-Catalyzed Amination of Aryl Fluorides via eta6-Coordination

We developed a Ru/hemilabile-ligand-catalyzed nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SNAr) of aryl fluorides as the limiting reagents. Significant ligand enhancement was demonstrated by the engagement of both electron-rich and neutral arenes in the SNAr amination without using excess arenes. Preliminary mechanistic studies revealed that the nucleophilic substitution proceeds on a eta6-complex of the Ru catalyst and the substrate, and the hemilabile ligand facilitates dissociation of products from the metal center.
