Asymmetric synthesis of cyclic ethers by rearrangement of oxonium ylides generated from chiral copper carbenoids

Tetrahydrofuran-3-ones and tetrahydropyran-3-ones can be prepared enantioselectively by rearrangement of the ylide-type intermediates generated by the reaction of a chiral copper carbenoid with the oxygen atom of a pendant allylic ether. Cyclic ethers with enantiomeric excesses of up to 57% have been obtained using a copper complex of the enantiomerically pure diimine 1a for carbenoid generation.

Phosphine mediated conjugation of S-nitrosothiols and aldehydes

S-Nitrosothiols (SNO) and their biological implications as an important post-translational modification are under active investigation. In our work on bioorthogonal reactions of protein SNO we have uncovered the chemistry of this functionality that shows synthetic promise. Herein we report a phosphine-mediated reaction between SNO and aldehydes to form thioimines. A simple synthesis of benzoisothiazole based on this reaction is presented.

Carbonyl rhodium(I) complexes containing (H)PNX (X = O or N) ligands deriving from natural aminoacid-amides. Synthesis, X-ray structure and spectroscopic characterization

The polyfunctional (H)PNX (X = O or N) ligands 1 and 2 react with [Rh(CO)2Cl]2 to give the corresponding chloro carbonyl complexes {Rh[kappa2-(H)PN](CO)Cl} (1a and 2a), where the neutral ligands coordinate in a kappa2-PN bidentate fashion, the square planar coordination being completed by the CO trans to N and the chloride trans to P. In chloroform solution 1a maintains its original structure, while 2a partially transforms into the cationic species {Rh[kappa3-(H)PNO](CO)}Cl. The chloroform solutions of 1a and 2a react with AgPF6 to give the purely cationic species {Rh[kappa3-(H)PNO](CO)}PF6 ([1a]+ and [2a]+), while addition of Et3N originates the neutral species {Rh[kappa3-PNN?](CO)} (1b and 2b). All the complexes have been characterized by microanalysis, IR, 1H NMR as well as 31P{1H} NMR spectroscopy. The X-ray structures of ligand 1 and complex 1b are also reported.

Pd nanosized particles supported on chitosan and 6-deoxy-6-amino chitosan as recyclable catalysts for Suzuki-Miyaura and Heck cross-coupling reactions

Several chitosan and 6-deoxy-6-amino chitosan-Schiff base ligands (1-4) were prepared by condensation of either 2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde or 2-(diphenylphosphino)benzaldehyde with the amino group(s) on chitosan and its derivative (6-deoxy-6-amino chitosan). The supported ligands were reacted with [PdCl2(COD)] to form chitosan-supported PdII catalysts (5-8). All the supported catalysts were air- and moisture-stable and have been characterized using elemental analysis, ICP-MS, UV-vis, FT-IR, PXRD, TGA, 31P solid state NMR and TEM. As models for the heterogenized catalysts (5 and 6), mononuclear PdII complexes (9 and 10) were also prepared via the Schiff-base condensation reaction of 1,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl- beta-d-glucosamine hydrochloride to form 1,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl-beta-d- glucos-2-pyridylimine and 1,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl-beta-d-glucos-2- (diphenylphosphino)imine which were subsequently reacted with [PdCl 2(COD)]. Complexes (9 and 10) and their precursors were characterized by 1H and 31P NMR, UV-vis, FT-IR spectroscopy and elemental analysis. Catalytic Suzuki-Miyaura and Heck carbon-carbon cross-coupling reactions were carried out using the supported Pd catalysts and their mononuclear analogues. The immobilized and homogeneous catalysts showed high activity for both the Suzuki-Miyaura and Heck cross-coupling reactions in organic and aqueous media. Homogeneous catalysts (9 and 10) decomposed during the first run, while the supported catalysts could be recycled and reused up to five times.

CuI complexes containing a multidentate and conformationally flexible dibenzylidene acetone ligand (dbathiophos): Application in catalytic alkene cyclopropanation

The synthesis and characterisation of a multidentate conformationally flexible ligand based on the dibenzylidene acetone core structure, dbathiophos (1), is described. Ligand 1 has a high affinity for cationic and neutral Cu I species. Three unique CuI complexes (4-6) are reported showing that the ligand backbone of dbathiophos is hemilabile, and able to adopt different 1,4-dien-3-one conformational geometries around CuI. Complexes 4 and 6 both effectively catalyse the cyclopropanation of styrene with ethyl diazoacetate at low catalyst loadings (1 mol% Cu). The Royal Society of Chemistry 2011.

Formation of 2-Azaallyl Cobalt(I) Complexes by Csp3-H Bond Activation

Three novel unsymmetrical eta3-2-azaallyl cobalt(I) complexes, [(2-PPh2)C6H4]CH?N[CHC6H4(4-R)]Co(PMe3)2 (4-6) (R = H (4); Cl (5); and OMe (6)), were synthesized by the reactions of Schiff base ligands [(2-PPh2)C6H4]CH?N[CH2C6H4(4-R)] (1-3) (R = H (1); Cl (2); and OMe (3)) with CoMe(PMe3)4 via sp3 C-H bond activation under mild reaction conditions. Complex {[(2-PPh2)C6H4]CH?NCH3[CHC6H4(4-R)]Co(PMe3)2}I (7) as an 18e cobalt(III) salt was obtained through the reaction of 4 with iodomethane. The substitution reaction of complex 4 with carbon monoxide afforded the dicarbonyl cobalt(I) complex [(2-PPh2)C6H4]CH[N?CHC6H4(4-R)]Co(CO)2(PMe3) (8). The molecular structures of complexes 4-8 were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction.

Cu-catalyzed asymmetric conjugate additions of alkylzinc reagents to acyclic aliphatic enones

Cu-catalyzed enantioselective conjugate additions to acyclic aliphatic enones are reported. The resulting enolates may be functionalized intra- and intermolecularly, leading to the formation of an additional C-C bond. The utility of the present method is not limited to reactions involving Et2Zn; a variety of alkylzincs may be used. Moreover, many of the requisite substrates can be easily accessed through catalytic olefin cross metathesis. Copyright

Whereas the reaction of 2 (where pz is either a pyrazolato or 3,5-dimethylpyrazolato group) with 3-(diphenylphosphino)benzoic acid and (2-formylphenyl)diphenylphosphine gives the dinuclearic complexes 2 (1 and 2) and 2 (5 and 6) respectively, 2-(diphenylphosphino)benzoic acid gives the monorhodium compounds (3 and 4).The structures of (6) have been determined by X-ray diffraction analyses. Both, the monorhodium and the dirhodium complexes catalyse the hydroformylation of acyclic and cyclic olefins at 120 deg C and at CO and H2 pressures of 28 atm.At 70-90 deg C the dinuclear complexes with 3-(diphenylphosphino)benzoic acid moieties are substantially more active than the monorhodium compounds.Key words: Rhodium; Phosphine; Hydroformylation; X-ray diffraction
