Synthesis of new stable phosphorus ylides and 1,4-diionic organophosphorus compound from a reaction between hexamethyl phosphorous triamide and dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate in the presence of CH-acids

A simple and efficient one-pot three-component reaction between hexamethyl phosphorous triamide and dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate (DMAD) in the presence of CH-acids, such as acetylacetone, 1,3-indandione, dibenzoylmethane, anthrone, and N,N-dimethylbarbituric acid, has been studied. In all cases, new and stable phosphorus ylides are obtained in excellent yields. These stable ylides exist in solution as a mixture of two geometrical isomers as a result of restricted rotation around the carbon-carbon partial double bond, resulting from conjugation of the ylide moiety with the adjacent carbonyl group. From the reaction of N,N-dimethylbarbituric acid with DMAD in the presence of hexamethyl phosphorous triamide, a 1,4-diionic organophosphorus compound is obtained.

Influence of amines and alkanethiols on the spectral and luminescent properties of InP@ZnS colloidal quantum dots

It has been shown that the precursors (long-chain amines and alkanethiols) used in liquid-phase colloidal synthesis of InP@ZnS quantum dots exert a significant influence on their spectral and luminescent properties. It has been found that dodecylamine and 1-dodecanethiol facilitate obtaining the particles with a narrow luminescence band and a low quantum yield, whereas oleylamine, 1-octanethiol, and 1,6-hexanedithiol stimulate the formation of the quantum dots with broad and intense luminescence. Conditions have been found under which the narrowing of the emission band to 46.3 nm becomes possible.

Novel cationic eta3-methallyl palladium complexes bearing pyridinyl-imine ligands: Synthesis, characterization and X-ray study

Ligands (pyridin-2-ylmethylene)anilines (L1-L4) and (1-(pyridin-2-yl)ethylidene)anilines (L5-L6) were obtained by condensation reactions. These ligands react with Pd(dba)2 in the presence of methallyloxytris(dimethylamino)phosphonium hexafluorophosphate [C4H7OP(NMe2)3]+PF6- to give the corresponding monometallic cationic eta3-methallylpalladium complexes C1-C6 in high yields. All new complexes C1-C6 have been characterized by CHN analyses, 1H, 13C, 31P NMR and IR spectroscopy. Solid state and electronic structures of complex C5 have been determined.

Experimental Basicities of Superbasic Phosphonium Ylides and Phosphazenes

Experimental basicities of some of the strongest superbases ever measured (phosphonium ylides) are reported, and by employing these compounds, the experimental self-consistent basicity scale of superbases in THF, reaching a pKalpha (estimate of pKa) of 35 and spanning more than 30 pKa units, has been compiled. Basicities of 47 compounds (around half of which are newly synthesized) are included. The solution basicity of the well-known t-Bu-N=P4(dma)9 phosphazene superbase is now rigorously linked to the scale. The compiled scale is a useful tool for further basicity studies in THF as well as in other solvents, in particular, in acetonitrile. A good correlation between basicities in THF and acetonitrile spanning 25 orders of magnitude gives access to experimentally supported very high (pKa > 40) basicities in acetonitrile, which cannot be directly measured. Analysis of structure-basicity trends is presented.

Non-linear PEG-based thermoresponsive polymer systems

Poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) is one of the most used polymers in medical and biological applications. Its non-toxicity, non-immunogenicity, biocompatibility and solubility in a wide range of solvents offer various possibilities of utilization and explain the amount of studies dealing with this polymer. More recently, non-linear PEG-based monomers attracted much interest due to their thermal behavior. The present review aims at presenting many PEG-based thermoresponsive systems from structural and synthesis point of view and at highlighting all their fascinating properties from their behavior in solution, the fine-tuning of the transition temperature until the formation of smart materials.

Multicomponent reactions in a one-pot synthesis of alpha- aminophosphonates and alpha-aminophosphonic diamides with anti-inflammatory properties

Schiff-base Kabachnik-Fields intermediates generated in situ from substituted pyrazole-4-carbaldehyde and 2-aminothiophene derivatives were trapped by dialkyl phosphites to produce the corresponding alpha- aminophosphonates in moderate yields. The latter products could be also obtained in excellent yields (?75%) by directly applying the phosphorus reagents to the Schiff bases. Next, dialkyl phosphites were applied to one of the parent aldehydes to give the expected alpha-hydroxyphosphonate derivatives. Applying hexaalkyl triamidophosphites to the Schiff base in ethanol afforded methylphosphonic diamide derivatives, whereas ring attack on the pyrazole ring occurred when the same amidophosphites were applied to the parent aldehyde to give the corresponding alkylidenephosphorane ylides in an open structure form in good yields. Some of the new compounds exhibited considerable anti-inflammatory properties.

Cooperative activation with chiral nucleophilic catalysts and n-haloimides: Enantioselective iodolactonization of 4-arylmethyl-4-pentenoic acids

Chiral triaryl phosphates promote the enantioselective iodolactonization of 4-substituted 4-pentenoic acids to give the corresponding iodolactones in high yields with high enantioselectivity. N-Chlorophthalimide (NCP) is employed as a Lewis acidic activator and oxidant of I2 for the present iodolactonization.
