Hydroformylation of unsaturated esters and 2,3-dihydrofuran under solventless conditions at room temperature catalysed by rhodium N-pyrrolyl phosphine catalysts

Rhodium complexes of the type HRh(CO)L-3 (where L is an N-pyrrolyl phosphine, such as P(NC4H4)(3), PPh(NC4H4)(2), or PPh2(NC4H4)) were applied in the hydroformylation of less reactive unsaturated substrates, namely allyl acetate, butyl acrylate, methyl acrylate, 2,3-dihydrofuran and vinyl acetate. Even at room temperature, these catalysts enabled complete substrate conversion and high chemoselectivity towards the corresponding aldehydes. High conversion of vinyl acetate (88% in 6 h) to the branched aldehyde was obtained with HRh(CO)[P(NC4H4)(3)](3) at 25 degrees C. An increase of the turnover frequency, TOF, up to 2000 mol mol(-1) h(-1) was achieved in this reaction under 20 bar of syngas (H-2/CO = 1) at 80 degrees C. The introduction of chiral phosphines, BINAP or Ph-BPE, to this system resulted in the production of a branched aldehyde with enantioselectivity, ee, up to 44 and 81%, respectively. High activity combined with high enantioselectivity was achieved due to the formation of the mixed rhodium hydrides HRh(CO)[P(NC4H4)(3)](BINAP) and HRh(CO)[P(NC4H4)(3)](Ph-BPE), identified by the NMR method.

Reductive alkylation of imines via asymmetric Cu-catalyzed addition of organozirconium reagents

Chiral amines are important as medicines or agrochemicals. They are often assembled by nucleophilic addition to corresponding compounds featuring C=N bond. Pre-made organometallics are typical nucleophiles in this reaction. In this work, we describe asymmetric reductive alkylation of imines with alkenes. Hydrozirconation of these alkenes generated organozirconium species in situ. The transformation is catalyzed by Cu-Segphos complex and affords chiral amines in enantioselectivities up to 93% ee. An Atropos Biphenyl Bisphosphine Ligand with 2,2-tert-Butylmethylphosphino Groups for the Rhodium-Catalyzed Asymmetric Hydrogenation of Enol Esters

This is an update of our previous work concerning the development of Atropos biphenyl bisphosphine ligands. An unexpected Atropos structural property was confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction and this result is consistent with the computational calculations described in our previous work. This P-stereogenic bisphosphine ligand possessing a biphenyl backbone and 2,2-tert-butylmethylphosphino groups has been applied to the Rh-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of enol esters, which has not been widely studied and can be used for the synthesis of several important bioactive compounds. Although there is room for further improvement in enantioselectivity, the results reported herein provide a further understanding of such types of ligands.

Chiral Phosphathiahelicenes: Improved Synthetic Approach and Uses in Enantioselective Gold(I)-Catalyzed [2+2] Cycloadditions of N-Homoallenyl Tryptamines

A chiral phosphathiahelicene scaffold displaying a CI phosphole and a thiophene unit as the terminal rings of the helical sequence has been synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic methods and X-ray diffraction studies. The phosphine oxides (HelPhos-V oxides) have been obtained following a robust and scalable synthetic approach, based on a nickel-promoted alkyne cyclotrimerization reaction. Then, late-stage functionalization has been carried out via a bromination/palladium coupling reaction sequence. The HelPhos-V gold(I) complexes have been used as catalysts in the unprecedented enantioselective [2 + 2] cyclization of N-homoallenyl tryptamine derivatives, to afford indolenine-fused cyclobutanes in good isolated yields, with enantiomeric excesses up to 93%.

Recent progress in the development of catalytic systems for homogenous asymmetric hydrosilylation of ketones

Catalytic hydrosilylation of various multiple bonds provides access to numerous organosilicon compounds. One of the most important applications of this reaction is asymmetric hydrosilylation of prochiral ketones to give silyl ethers, which can be easily hydrolyzed to chiral alcohols – important building blocks and intermediates in different fields of chemistry. Until recently its wide-spread application in synthetic chemistry was limited due to the high price and low commercial availability of the catalytic systems, as well as high substrate dependence. The present review describes the advances in the development of the homogenous catalytic systems for asymmetric hydrosilylation of prochiral ketones for the period of 2010-2020, which is characterized by significant progress in the efficiency of the catalytic systems using base metals, expansion of the substrate scope, and further improvement of reaction conditions. Photocatalytic decarboxylative alkylations mediated by triphenylphosphine and sodium iodide

Most photoredox catalysts in current use are precious metal complexes or synthetically elaborate organic dyes, the cost of which can impede their application for large-scale industrial processes. We found that a combination of triphenylphosphine and sodium iodide under 456-nanometer irradiation by blue light-emitting diodes can catalyze the alkylation of silyl enol ethers by decarboxylative coupling with redox-active esters in the absence of transition metals. Deaminative alkylation using Katritzky’s N-alkylpyridinium salts and trifluoromethylation using Togni’s reagent are also demonstrated. Moreover, the phosphine/iodide-based photoredox system catalyzes Minisci-type alkylation of N-heterocycles and can operate in tandem with chiral phosphoric acids to achieve high enantioselectivity in this reaction.

Asymmetric Synthesis of Alkyl Fluorides: Hydrogenation of Fluorinated Olefins

The development of new general methods for the synthesis of chiral fluorine-containing molecules is important for several scientific disciplines. We herein disclose a straightforward method for the preparation of chiral organofluorine molecules that is based on the iridium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of trisubstituted alkenyl fluorides. This catalytic asymmetric process enables the synthesis of chiral fluorine molecules with or without carbonyl substitution. Owing to the tunable steric and electronic properties of the azabicyclo thiazole-phosphine iridium catalyst, this stereoselective reaction could be optimized and was found to be compatible with various aromatic, aliphatic, and heterocyclic systems with a variety of functional groups, providing the highly desirable products in excellent yields and enantioselectivities.

Access toP-chiralsec- andtert-phosphine oxides enabled by Le-Phos-catalyzed asymmetric kinetic resolution

The synthesis ofP-stereogenic building blocks is extremely difficult. Herein we report an efficient kinetic resolution of secondary phosphine oxidesviaa Le-Phos-catalyzed asymmetric allylation reaction with Morita-Baylis-Hillman carbonates. This method provides facile access to enantioenriched secondary and tertiaryP-chiral phosphine oxides with broad substrate scope, both of which could serve asP-stereogenic synthons, and can be rapidly incorporated into a given scaffold bearing aP-stereocenter. The highly desirable late stage modifications demonstrate the practicability of our method and can be a critical contribution to obtaining optimalP-chiral catalysts and ligands.
